DETECTORS research project

My name is María Yolanda. I am a marine biologist, and a few years ago, I dedicated myself to naturalistic illustration and scientific outreach in the research project DETECTORS, a research project that unites Chile and the United Kingdom in the search to decipher the history of our ocean based on current data using planktonic foraminifera.

They are marine microorganisms that float in the sea, are sensitive to the environment where they live, and are covered by a shell, which lasts over time.
When these little animals die, they fall to the bottom of the sea and form layers of microfossils. It is necessary to study what the ocean was like when these little animals were alive hundreds of years ago.

This research seeks to find the necessary information through the study of current planktonic foraminifera about our ocean to calibrate the historical studies carried out in the Pacific Ocean.

In the outreach project Marine Logbook, Knowing the past of our ocean with Foraminifera, I seek to disseminate and make known this research and the importance of foraminifera and plankton in general through freely accessible audiovisual and educational material on this blog.
